How to Use this Website

There are two ways to use this website. For those casual users who want to read about the laws of the game and watch the associated videos, all you have to do is click on Laws of the Game and away you go. You have full access to every law and interpretation.

For those wishing to test their knowledge and receive a Laws of the Game Certificate, or to start their journey in becoming an officially accredited referee, you will need to register an account which is totally free of charge. This will give you access to the referee workbook which contains questions in a variety of formats for each Law.

Once you have successfully completed the workbook you will have the option to complete the referee exam. If you successfully complete the exam, you will receive a Laws of the Game Certificate. You can then register for the Level 4 course, which will enable you to become an accredited referee.

Things you may encounter

You may encounter icons when logged in to your account and while we endeavour to keep these as self explanatory as possible we'll give you a brief rundown on their function here.

For example, in the workbook section of the website you will be asked a series of questions. As you complete the questions and have them marked, icons will be shown on the complete and incomplete questions.

Each Law has a number of text screens which can easily be navigated by clicking on the next button or the relevant page number

Content navigation bar

Each Law also has a video and some contain pictures which can be viewed using the inbuilt player. You can navigate between these videos and pictures using the navigation bar

Once you have successfully completed this course you need to attend the Level 4 Junior Referee course before you can officially referee matches.

These courses are run by your local Member Federation or local referee or football organisation. The course consists of 8 hours of practical and theory sessions as well as some practice matches. When you attend this course you will need to take with you a printed copy of your Laws or the Game certificate.

The contact details for the Member Federations are below. You should check their websites for information on courses or contact them direct.
